Fry Cub Colts U13 (3) Brislington (1)
September 18, 2005
The Fry’s boys were really
up for this game for several reasons. Last season the points were shared as both
teams took 3 points from either game, and a number of players from Fry’s and
Brislington attend the same school, so pride was at stake.
Fry’s
started positively and passed the ball around well. They had many runs at the Brislington goal which
paid off in the 10th minute when a good shot from Dan Buley was well
saved by the Brislington keeper, who was unfortunate to only push the ball away
into the path of Ryan Davis who fired the ball into the net.
1 nil up and Fry’s were
playing well but were unable to convert the chances that they made. Brislington
started to look strong and their striker got on the end of a through pass, to
toe poke the ball past the advancing Jack Baber in the Fry’s goal.
As seen in previous games
this season, the Fry’s boys didn’t let their heads go down, and continued to
attack. Excellent work from mid field (Skinner and Thomas) advanced the ball
out to Ryan Ellett on the left wing, who passed the
ball into the box to Dan Buley, who turned and fired a low shot, on the turn, low
under the Brislington keeper to put Fry’s back into a deserved 2-1 lead.
The second half started
off just as competitavley as the first with Fry’s on the attack.
They were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the 40th minute
when the Bris defender was climbing all over Harry Pople when both went up for
a header in the box.
Over the next 20 minutes Fry’s
were reliant on Jack Baber in goal to stop the onslaught from the Brislington
attack. One superb save awarded Bris with a corner, only to see the excellent
in-swinging ball plucked out of the air by the leaping keeper.
In the 68th minute,
a through ball into the Bris area was chased down by Dan Buley and a Brislington
defender in a 50 –50 tousle. Fry’s were lucky to be awarded a penalty by the
referee. There was no doubt about the outcome when the ever reliant Danny Curtis
stepped up to smash the spot kick into the roof of the net to make the score 3-1.
The second half seemed to
go on forever, with Justin Skinner coming close in the 76th minute
from a free kick just outside the area.
It was a relief when the
final whistle came, for both the Fry’s players and the crowd to this hard
fought game, which if most chances had been profited on, would have been won in
the first half by the Fry’s boys.
